Quick Nijmegen - ACC 2
Quick continued at about 4 an over, helped by our poor catching. 4 drops off Rehan’s bowling alone left him to pick up his only wicket with a catch by the only fielder he trusted – himself. Special thanks to the 5’s for lending us Nagesh for the day, (at late notice). He was unlucky not to pick up a wicket in his spell. A great direct hit from Kamran got rid of their top scorer, but that was one of the few fielding highlights on a hot day. Quick ended their 50 overs at 213 for 8.
We started off carefully, other than a beautiful 6 by Roelof. He was looking good, when he pulled a ‘hammie’ and without the possibility to run quick singles (with the ever willing and lightning Doekhie) he set about trying to hit his way to a few runs. When he was bowled, Doekhie was joined by Bassie. Bassie seemed to specialise in hitting 2’s, and that probably contributed to Doekhie hitting a tired shot down the ground and being caught on the boundary for a nice 25. Bassie was joined by Gert and they set about steadily tilting the game in our favour. When Gert was caught, only 50 runs were needed and the only question seemed to be if Bassie could make a ton. He was rapidly running out of runs to score, Kammie, hitting a couple of 4’s and a couple of bye’s / wides that went for 4 didn’t help his cause. He needed 5 (with the team only needing 4 to win), when he walked across his stumps and was trapped in front. Rehmat joined Kammie to see us safely home and to make it 7 wins from 7.
