Revenge is a dish best served cold.
After last week’s reverse in Eindhoven, the 2nds were determined that this week’s return game would yield 2 points for Amsterdam. Most players were at the ground early, giving us time for good preparation. In fact the only thing not practiced was the coin toss. With the league umpire coming out to ensure fair play, the double headed coin was left in the changing room and sure enough, the PSV skipper called right and elected to bat. Good steady bowling from Xander and Marvin had them 20 for 3 after 9 overs. A couple of steady partnerships followed, but against the tight bowling of Wajdan, Ajit, Rehan and Maninder the run rate never got above 3. Once the 6th wicket fell, it was like a house of cards. I think Rehan had given up bowling for catches and in his 10th over, finally got his reward with a couple of smart stumpings by Kammie. PSV’s 10 men were finally all out for 137.
Given our batting performance last week, PSV were harbouring some hopes of turning us over again, but with a proper cricket outfield, our guys could play proper cricket shots. Rehmat was looking very good, hitting some beautiful 4’s and looking well set, when he left a ball that uprooted his off stump. How far the ball actually came back is a matter for debate, but in describing it, Rehmat looked like the fisherman describing the one that got away. No worries about a collapse this week, Kammie and Bas looked like the quality batsmen that they are, both picking up 50’s with a succession of classy genuine cricket shots. The total was passed with ease with 27 overs still to play. The PSV guys took the defeat very well; it was good to see them stay for a beer despite the long trip back. The win leaves ACC2 top of the table with 3 matches left to play....
