Match Report: ACC3 v Groningen 1 21.5.009
Captain S.Raza won an important toss, and opted to take advantage of the favorable fielding conditions to put Groningen into bat. An early breakthrough came off the bowling of Z Chaudry, caught by F Nadeem, and a late swinging ball from A.Malik accounted for their opener. At this stage ACC3 where well on top with the third wicket falling to M.Boeye and caught by F Nadeem.
Total runs stood at 49. Groningen hit back, and by the time the fourth wicket fell to a run out the score stood at 112. A further 44 runs where added to the total until I Raina unleashed a lightening ball to dislodge their no 5 batsman’s middle stump. A vital breakthrough as their batsman G Krishna had already added 66 to their total. Soon after S Chaudry excelled again by taking a catch off the bowling of S Raza. Who continued his good form to dismiss their number 8 caught and bowled, and number 9 caught by I Raina At this stage ACC3 were back in control and A Malik’s hard work was rewarded with another wicket, clean bowling their number 10.
Generally the bowling was disciplined with Z Chaudry achieving 3.4/over, A Malik 4.1/over and S Raza 4.4/over.
After forty overs the total score was 167 runs, 26 extras leaving ACC3 to chase 193.
ACC3 were put into bat requiring a run rate of 4.9/over. Opening batsmen F Nadeem and Z Malik where dismissed early for one run each. Captain S Raza put ACC3 back into the game with an excellent 68 assisted by I Raina who contributed 36 runs and T Malik with 10 runs. Controlled batting continued from A Swaneveld (15 runs), and J Pathek (14 runs) secured a victory for ACC3 with a well bit four.
