ACC3 starts with a win.
Finally after waiting for many weeks and a lot of cricket on the tele, we had our first game against R&W 3.
What made it even better, we played on the 1st field.
After the toss we fielding first. I opened the bowling together with Ali. Even though I wasn't bowling at 100% (just recoverd from injury), still managed to get my first scalp of the season.
The batsman drove a halfvolleyish ball straight to Zeddy at cover, who held on to it with a brilliant dive forward.
Two things crossed my mind just then: 1. sometimes you just need luck and 2. Zeddy actually dived.
Ali on the other hand was on fire straight away and got two wickets both knocking back the middlestump. Should have been three but I couldn't hold on to a low catch at mid on.
Their number 3 batsman played some good clean shots to the boundary and from 14/3, he lifted the score to 45/3.
Zeeshan (Zee) Choudry (back from a year 'rest') replaced me and showed his potential by cleanbowling him after the second ball. Score was now 45/4.
Our new member Asif Khan started from the other end. He can bowl some good cutters and he too got his man out in his second over.
The batsmen didn't do much anymore besides blocking their way out or leaving deliveries outside off. So pacebowling wasn't going to do any good and Zee was replaced by Khurram.
He has an ability to get a wicket in his first over and with great power comes great responsibility, so usually he only gets one over. And yes, he did get a wicket. A neat edge was taken cleanly by Amir behind the stumps so 55/6 on the board. With 18 overs on the board and six wickets down I could've give everyone a go. It's a great feeling when bowling changes work.
In the meantime they kept the scoreboard ticking and runs were leaking now and then so another change was required.
Mehran Khan (new member and not related to Asif Khan) took over from Khurram. He too got the batsman out in his third ball by a rising delivery just managing to hit the top of middlestump. 71/7.
Their left-hand captain got in and hit a few boundaries so it was time to change the bowling again. Guy, nowadays an offspinner, replaced Asif and was a bit unlucky not to get a wicket.
Runs were still leaking bit by bit and Ali together with Atif (this year 2nd team player) were brought into the attack.
Excellent bowling by Atif gave him two wickets in two balls. One was an outside edge and again, Amir taking it cleanly behind the stumps. The other, bowling the batsman for 0 so a hattrick chance!
Ali on the other end just made sure that dot balls were bowled so Atif could go for the hattrick. Unfortunately, Atif bowled the lefty on his second ball...just one ball too late.
End result 107 to chase. In the end good overall performance since it's the first match.
Best bowling figures (o-m-r-w)
Atif Khan 1.2-1-2-3
Ali Rashid 5-1-13-2
Asif Khan 5-2-11-1
Zeeshan Choudry 4-1-9-1
So with a relaxed feeling, we started our nice lunch. We got a bit too relaxed knowing we only had to chase down 108 runs to win.
Sticking to the regular battingorder, Zeddy and Mehran opened the batting. Too bad Mehran tried playing one of his flicks to many and was given LBW. 8/1.
Amir looking good in het nets and in the friendly against ACC4, gave Zeddy some good support. Both made sure the runrate was atleast 5 an over.
The wind helped the bowler a bit and Amir got an outside edge and caught at gully. 37/2.
Together with Teja, Zeddy kept the runrate the same. When Zeddy passed his 30, both accelerated.
For the second time this year, 1st against ACC4 and now against R&W, Zeddy reached his 50 with some handsome strokes. Even the few supporters were impressed.
By then just a few runs were required to win the match and everyone hoped they would finish it off.
The bowler again helped by the wind, produced a jaffer of a delivery and got Zeddy bowled on 106 runs, him scoring 55.
It was simple, Guy went in, faced one ball and scored the winning 2 runs and came out. The first game was a fact.
