A crushing victory
Unlike most of my reports, this report will be short, just like the match we played Sunday against Baarn 1.
The match lasted in total 28 overs, in which 80 runs were scored, 14 wickets fell (6xbowled, 8xcaught), 1x6, highest score was a 30 and Mr. Extra's 16.
Last but not least, only one team had a huge smile on their face.
For a change, I lost the toss and their captain wanted to have a bat first. I would have done the same considering the ground and pitch: a hockey ground with a mat in the middle.
After our second field pitch, this ground was a bowlers paradise. I noticed that after bowling just one ball. Their batsman knew too, since their first wicket fell just after a few balls bowled.
Not much later, I got their no. 3 out but they did manage to get into double figures.
Zee was again just too quick which also meant they either left or blocked him jumping. The change to Omar and Asif worked and was devastating.
It was a wickets-fest for these two and these fell from both ends consistently. Asif took three including two cleanbowleds and one catch by a diving Zeddy forward at covers.
But Omar turned the match upside down with his first ever 5-wicket haul. Consisting of 2x bowled, 2x caught and bowled by himself and 1x caught by Khurram.
After 19.4 overs, they just scored 38 runs of which Mr. Extra was their topscorer with 16...
Bowling:
Omar: 4.4 - 11 - 5
Asif: 4-2-2-3
Abid: 6-12-2
Zee: 5-1-10-0
We were disappointed and excited at the same time. It's like when a child asks for one candy, you give him a room full.
Food makes you think clearer so had lunch.
So, a huge target to chase meant we had to change the battingorder. Since Mehran batted us to victory last week against Kikkers and this being his last match of the season, he opened with Zeddy.
Zeddy got out very unlucky, the ball hit his bat but rolled through the stumps where the bails fell off.
Imran didn't have a bowl so could have a go at no.3 spot. No success. On a shortish ball, hit it straight up and easy caught.
Just 38 runs to defend and already lost 2 wickets, it didn't worry me but does cross your mind for a sec.
In the mean time, Mehran played some handsome strokes towards the boundary and defending as if his life depended on it. Obviously, we cheered Mehran as much as possible.
Amir got in at no.4 and they had a bowling change. Amir couldn't do much, it was a nice delivery angling in and taking Amir's middlestump. Sometimes you just have to give respect to a bowler for a good ball. Knowing Asif, he never plans to stay long, i.e. finishing the game quickly. Together with again Mehran, they finished it off within 9 overs.
Batting:
Mehran: 30*
Asif: 5*
Too bad some teams can't handle defeat but in the end, a win is a win.
Man of the match: Omar Raja
Abid Malik
