VVV 3 - ACC 3 6 juni 2006
The story of yet another Captain’s match…
After the brilliant 81 not out by the Captain, Sajid Raza, against VRA 4, he was in for more. While last week he had good bowling figures and was not out, he was in for more. This said, he went for it: bowling: 4 / 23 in 10. If this is not impressive enough, he also made another half-century: 52 before he was given LBW. The signs were good: The captain lost the toss (again!) and we were required to field. It is getting a kind of tradition losing the toss, fielding first and winning after all.
The rest of the team was in good form: Mr. Anwar: 1 / 20 in 5.5 and Mr. L. Swaneveld 2 / 23 in 10. While these figures were good and VVV was struggling at 59 for 6 after 21 overs, they made sure that the next wicket fell in the 34th over and with a partnership of 83 runs!!! It was sad that we were not fielding at our best during these overs and they could make some quick runs. In additions, there were some overthrows – free runs – sniff… In the end VVV was 166 all out (39.5 overs). A decent come back after the 59 for 6 in 21…
After a good and copious lunch, provided by the caring VVV team, ACC walked to the middle. Mr. Giliamse and Mr. Bagkari (16) opened. Sadly, Mr. Giliamse was caught quite soon for only 3 runs. Mr. Pijpers (8) wanted to stay at the strikers end: he only hit 2’s, problem was that the last (intended) 2 was hit in the air . . . and caught. Mr. Shah (5) was sent in to have a go (and the fact that he had to leave at 16:00). In a way, he sensed it was nearing his departure time, at 15:50, he hit a ball high: Mr. Shah continued running towards the clubhouse.
At this moment we were 58 for 4 after 18 overs. Patience and digging were required. Mr. Beuker (12) was sent in after the wicket of Mr. Shah fell. He was digging and digging, edging a ball for six over square leg. Sadly, he was run out by Mr. Raza (yet another wicket for our Captain).
After Mr. Beuker left the scene, Mr. Anwar came in and shared a solid partnership of 49 runs with Mr. Raza including some magnificent sixes! Beer was already present at the clubhouse so Mr. Anwar and Mr. A. Swaneveld (9*) wrapped things up with a partnership of 32. Loud cheers and hurrahs were accompanying them all the way to the clubhouse.
Memorable batting was done by Mr. Anwar 37 and Mr. Bagkari: 16. Last but not least, a new personal record for Mr. Extra with his 30 not out!
VVV 3 : 166 a.o.
ACC 3 : 172 / 6 in 36.4
