ACC 3 : 226 / 9 in 40
Rood & Wit 3 : 100 a.o.
Or, another captain's innings (Or...this is getting boring)
On this very beatiful morning of June 16, 2006, the third team of ACC gathered for a match against Rood & Wit. Our beloved captain lost the toss . . . again ! ! And we put in to bat for a change.
The pillar of strenght of lastweek was opening. However, the first wicket (Mr. Bagkari 9) fell at 21. Mr. Beuker came in and left a few ball later (kwak). Mr. Raza tried to do the same thing as he did the last few weeks: dig in. In this he succeeded. He stayed and stayed...Untill that last ball he tried to slug out over square leg. He didn't. The score, oh well, let's not talk about that. He is still too upset to talk about it. Let's say he made up for it with his bowling (2 for 15 in 6). Notable other scores are: Mr. Anwar: 28, Mr. JW. Giliamse 26 and a stunning 19 for Mr. Pijpers (2 fours).
Well, a good lunch came and went accompagnied by tea, milk and some limonade. Followed by some proper fielding. Bowling was good, motivated and clearly on the spot. Let the figures speak:Mr. Shah: 1 for 11 in 7; Mr. Al-Hassan: 4 for 34 in 10 and a absolute fantastic and brilliant 2 for 0 in 0.3; the name is going to be a secret otherwise this person will be playing in the 2nd for the rest of the season...
Still on track for the Championship of 2006 . . .

Cave
What I like about the thirds.
Report from in import ex-hippo.
Obviously it helps the thirds are successful at the moment. But what I find most important is that everyone within their abilities gives everything they have. Real important to me and me having fun with cricket.
No surprise those abilities differ. All have read in the reports so far about the extremely good batting performance of our captain Sajid Raza. Also Vincent Pijpers, Adnan Anwar, Mark Sarre and Hasrat Bagkari surely know how to hit a few and Cave (Jan Willem Beuker) honors his name by his expert digging in. You probably have also read about the very good bowling performances of Len Swaneveld (he remains unplayable at times, so much fun to stand up to), Zahid Shah (yesterday some tidy pace bowling I have not been privileged to see often before, I don’t think I’ve ever positioned myself so far behind the wicket yet), the dangerous bowling of Menno Besseling and very tidy and effective bowling by Faraz Al Hasan, Adnan Anwar and Sajid Raza.
What you haven’t read about yet (or enough anyway) is the great fielding and support for the bowlers. You haven’t read yet about the great athletic fielding stuff Adnan Anwar show at gully (or wherever), the long strides of Menno Besseling to cut off a ball closing in on the boundary. The quick as lightning chasing of a ball by Hasrat Bagkari and Len Swaneveld from which many a run-out (chance) was the result. The giving it all chases by Cave (Jan Willem Beuker) (we will also not forget his slow motion catches, he seems to have so much time!), the going all out attempts to catch a ball by Mark Sarre (unfortunately resulting in a niggling hamstring injury, hope you get well soon mate!). And how about the cutting off the single on legside by Hans Uiting for example!, but from all the team great stuff. Singles are hard to come by against our team.
You also haven’t read about the great vocal support given to each other. Let’s make some noise! Of course when bowling/fielding so well, there is much to cheer about, but also attempted chases just to late preventing a ball going over the boundary, a catch attempt not sticking, they all get their just support if it was obvious they’d given their best. While batting, yes we applaud fours and sixes. But just as much support is given to some quick running between the wickets and a good ball defended away safely.
Please see this as an extended thank you note. I am very much enjoying my cricket at the moment. Mainly thanks to the atmosphere with the team, in and outside the field. Let’s keep that going. Let’s cheer for a beautiful 4 from Sajid Raza, let’s cheer for a beautiful bowling display by Len Swaneveld, let’s cheer for a beautiful stop at gully from Adnan Anwar, let’s keep making jokes about Zahid (don’t we all?, it’s just too easy ;-)) but also give him credit for his bowling and his off pitch activities. Let’s just keep cheering and acknowledging the stuff done by all, it’s obvious everyone in the thirds gives it their all, to the best of their abilities. Let’s keep enjoying playing cricket together like we do now.
Cheers, Jan Willem Gilijamse, third team wickie.
