ACC 3 vs. Jinnah 3 (139-7 - 136 a.o.)
With Jinnah in second place, just two point behind us in the league we knew it was gonna be a big game. With some of our regular members on holiday for the rest of the season we got reinforcements from some of the other ACC teams. Thanks a lot guys for coming to play! After winning the toss, we went in to field. Marvin (1-13 in 10) and Mark (1-30 in 7) opened the bowling for us and did a great job. Keeping the run rate down and both taking a wicket.
Then some guy came on to take over the bowling from Mark, but we will not discuss his bowling. Jinnah knew they needed to start making some runs, so they started hitting a little more. Balls were going up in the air but no wickets fell. Then Snapper (3-35 in 7.5) and Menno (2-27 in 5) got the ball and bowled great. Tight fielding kept the run rate down and we took some great catches (nice one Mark, how is your head Umer? J). We also dropped a couple of ‘uppies’, so we need to work on that guys. Finally Daniel came on to take over from Menno and he continued the good work with the ball getting 2 for 7 in 4 overs.
I’m well pleased with how we did in the field and the bowling was superb (11 extra’s in 38 overs!). In the end Jinnah was 136 all out, a total we could live with I think.
So we knew we had a very obtainable target, now all we had to do was get there. Going in to bat, we lost one early wicket but then Hasrat (27) and Daniel (13) had a good 46 partnership that got us going. Snapper came in when Daniel got out and got 17. But then we just had to have ourselves a little collapse. Why do we always have to make games exciting? Why can’t we just win them with 7 wickets in hand? Oh well, the people on the sideline got to see some excitement and that has to be worth something. We lost some quick and cheap wickets, and went from 75 for 2 in 21 overs, to 95 for 5 in 25 overs. Then Marvin (35 n.o.) came in with the Giant Sequoia tree he calls a bat, and went to work. We lost two more wickets but Marvin smashed a couple of balls out of the ground and with one final 6 we passed their total in the 33rd over. Not quite the solid batting performance we were all hoping for, but it got the job done, so who cares!
Your very happy captain,
Lenny
