ACC 3 vs. Kampong 3 (138 a.o. 183/6) 13 augustus 2006

Kampong, the only team that had beaten us this year. Last time we used the grass wicket as an excuse, this time we would take them on our own turf.
We went in to field and we were looking to bowl and field like we did last week against Jinnah. It was not to be. Our two opening bowlers again had good opening spells but this time could not force the breakthrough.
The bowlers thoroughly deserved a wicket, but sloppy fielding and sloppy catching (or not-catching to be more precise) didn’t really help them.
The first wicket fell with the score at 46, LBW to a left arm spinner, the batsman was not pleased, but was still out. Then it was sluggin’ time for Kampong. Their number 3 batsman
hit balls all over the place, some out of the ground, some straight at fielders that just didn’t hold on to the ball. Finally he swung and missed on one that actually hit the stumps (the first bit happened a lot, the second bit unfortunately not). And then we found out that their batting line up sorta ended at number 4, they went from 165 for 2, to 171 for 6, although they could afford to take a lot of risks by that time. The innings ended after 40 overs, with the score on 183. Abid got 2 wickets in the end that were well deserved (gotta work on those wides, but I’m not telling you anything you don’t know J). Zahid bowled much better then him figures of 0 for 50 in 8 will tell you, we missed a lot of catches, but most of them were on his bowling. And sorry Mark for making you bowl the 40th over, lets forget that very unrewarding job and say that you had a 0 for 14 in 5 opening spell, beautiful stuff. And nice one Neil, getting 2 for 9 in 3 right at the end.During the break the captains agreed that 183 was very makeble, but also very defendable, we might just have a good game on our hands!20 overs into our innings it really didn’t look like a good game at all. We lost too many wickets way to quickly and run rate was way to low. Almost all the batsmen going out to really stupid shots. Except Cave who sacrificed his wicket to keep JW in, great team play mate, hats off. Well done JW (26 runs) for just sticking it our in the middle while everything was collapsing around you. We were 37 for 5 after 20 overs, which is just disgraceful, no matter how well their two openers were bowling. With their to openers both finishing their 10 over spells, the run rate did pick up though. Mark smashed a quick 41 and Kampong actually started to worry a bit. Abid added a quick 24 (dude, that 6 was HUGE!!), and Menno got in on the action with 11. But unfortunately it couldn’t make up for the appalling start to the innings and we ended up 138 a.o. Len
