What kind of competitor are you? VOC4 - ACC4Recently Elgin Baylor, a famous basketballer from the Lakers, started a sentence with 'for those that like competing, basketball is...' and I was struck silent and didn't even hear the rest of what he was saying. You mean there are people who don't like competing? And a memory came to me of a weeks conference I was once at where there was a tabletennis table, and this guy and I would spend half an hour every day hitting to and fro. We had some great rallies, but every time I suggested we play a game, he turned me down, seven days in a row. I thought he was just afraid to lose. But maybe he genuinely didn't like competing. I never considered that as an option as I usually hang out with people who love competing... see who can throw furthest, hit furthest, catch more, you name it, as kids my brother and I would turn everything into a competition. Why? |
ACC4 Cap Committee Update. What is the most recognised honour in cricket today? As everybody knows it is the famous baggy red and black cap that signifies you are a fully fledged member of ACC4.
Law 38 (Runout) or Law 39 (Stumped)Some people walk at a different pace than others. Take JC, although he of course also used a different surface than others. We have our own JC, for one tour many tours ago Dickie Broggel was thus nicknamed in a premonition of the events late in the game ACC4-VOC4 last monday. ...Ah but for le moments supreme, why are we here...Sport is about moments. Hell, life is about moments. All we have is a string of moments to be in, look forward to or look back on. But some moments are bigger than others, more important, more intense, and thats where sport comes in, sport at its best creates those moments, like excelsior away for acc4.
What exactly is a wide ball!?It was such a question that pre-occupied ACC4, new found members of the ZoMi league. There are balls of many kinds and no doubt the mathematicians among will agree the me that the essential character of a ball is that it be round or spherical in nature.
ACC4 are champions! Our last match against Qui Vive didn't really showed a champions-team. They bundled us all out for not many and no, it had nothing to do with any fixing.
The few highlights involved Zeddy in two occasions: highest scores and involved in two run-outs. I'm not saying he was the cause but he was present at the crime scene. Second highlight was Omar's bowling, just marvelous: 10-1-24-1. The other was Mr. Extra with his 75. Ofcourse we weren't really happy with him and I guess that's more than enough info about that game. A long drive, but a good result.Let me start by congratulating ACC5 for their excellent win. Big Mike delivered as requested, so did we.
We are now 4 points ahead of our direct competition if we all play the full 14 matches. There are still 3 matches to be played which I intend to win. Just like we did in this match against WCR. In our first match against them, fielding first was a wise decision as we comfortably chased their score. Also taking into account the weather forecast with sun in the afternoon, fielding first is what we did after we won the toss. I saved one ball of the first set we received from EP for a must win match because the other balls we got were terrible. R&W made us really sweat..againAfter not having played a single game for three weeks now, we had to get back into our cricketing mindset, which was a difficult thing.
Also given the fact that 10 out of 11 were performing the obligatory fasting (it's the holy month Ramadan), it was expected that the concentration levels would be low. And they were, even before the match had started. The team was divided into groups either in favour of battingfirst or fielding. The toss was won and I opted to field first. Shahjee and Ali opened the bowling and were able to put some good pressure on the openers straight from the start and an excellent delivery by Ali bowled their opener out. 31/1 in 12. Clash of the TitansFinally, the day had arrived that ACC4 and ACC5 would meet in the middle for real. We've had our shares of friendlies (which we won this year) but this was different. Both at the top of the league on 14 points, with us having played one less. An important game for both of us. The rain Saturday didn't do any good as the outfield was fairly wet so we would have opted to field first. Also, because we were playing with 9 seniors with 2 very much young talented U13 cricketers Berend en Jim against a full senior team of ACC5. Before I go any further writing, this report will be totally biased and from an ACC4 perspective.
The two Zahid'sOur game against Olympia wasn't what you call the greatest battle of the league. Obviously, we approached the game as it was.
It was a good game and won convincingly. As seen before (Bloemendaal showing up with a complete new team) Olympia too had mostly a different team. Usually that either means that they really want to win or they just needed eleven so picked up whoever was available. |
