VCC 5 - ACC 4 - Umer Muhammed 145*
Freddy Flintoff? doesn't. Trescothik nope. Steve Waugh certainly does and so does our very own Umer Muhammed.
Of course I am talking about wether or not the captaincy raises a players game. Some let the pressure and the thoughts of fieldplacements or who has to umpire (and Freddy didn't even have to worry about that) influence their game, others rise above their usual standard and win games with captain's innings that stand out in the books for a long time. So our Umer who as vice-captain had to stand in for Mike. He led 10 men to Voorburg to revenge a tie that had been hanging around our neck like a lenghty piece of rope waiting for a heavy knot.
We batted first and our well chosen openingpair Haney and Brian fell at their respective bogey numbers of 38 and 17. Paddy and Robert came in thinking they were competing for the batting title. But both seemed so happy to reach double figures that they proceeded to gift their wickets away and Umer had to come in in the 17th over. Now the ACC4 batting standings before the game looked something like this:
Patrick Phillips 26,60
Robert Wolfe 24,67
Richard Matchett 20,43
Duncan McNab 19,40
Dick Broggel 18,50
Notice Umer wasn't even in the top5! here's what the batting averages look like now:
Umer Muhammed 46,20
nothing for a long time....
the rest
Umer hit a fantastic 145 not out scoring in all parts of the field and it included some sharp running with Richard Wolfe and also a great innings in support by Tim Lewis with 28 runs. Umer ended his innings by hitting the last two balls for huge sixes, not dancing down the track, but gliding down... head held high. He was unbeatable. ACC4 scored 314 in 40 overs. Then our skipper decided to have our 10 men bowl 4 overs each. Which even our scoring book had trouble with, wonder if ecricket will cope? Only the second century at ACC this season and the highest score so far. What a great day folks.
