Red and White get the Blues
ACC4 beat Rood en Wit 4 by 167 runs
Here we are again, after last season's epic journey to second place there are high expectations in the ACC 4 team. Old MacDonald, the captain, has lost 10 kilos but Patrick our new entertainment and motivation manager has apparently found them. A few team members have been promoted to ACC 2 and others are backpacking around the world but we can also welcome back some old faces.
The skipper has not lost his touch with the coin and by 11ish, ACC 4 were batting. Familiar openers Robert Wolfe and Haney Zaidi set about the task with aplomb and put on 100 runs for the first wicket in 17 overs. Then Haney did his usual trick of finding the only fielder on the square leg boundary and we were 101 for 1. That brought Mr. Motivation to the crease and the second wicket added another 50 runs. With score at 153 after 28 overs the skipper ordered the lads to get on with it. Bob took this literally and promptly smacked a six and a four then Patrick tried to emulate his partner and "danced" down the crease turning a long hop into a yorker and the score was 164 for 2. Supported by Ugly Matchett and Nagesh Danturi, playing in a wetsuit, Robert Wolfe went on to make 109, his first century and the first solo crate of the year. All of the team chipped in with the bat resulting in a total of 257 for 9 off the 40 overs. Special mention must be made of the Rood and Wit dropping coach whose new job must be secure after seeing his team drop 15 catches.
Our special thanks to Jana for the smiling face and a terrific lunch which fortified us for the "hot" fieldling session that was to come. Opening bowlers Pretty Boy and Smurf kept everything tight (just like the wetsuit) and the runs required were soon over 10 an over. This allowed Paddy to swing his way to four wickets and Rood en Wit were 90 all out. All the bowlers took wickets with two for Nagesh the Smurf, one wicket for Pretty Boy, two wickets for Richard Wolfe specialising in anatomy (meat or blood!!) and one wicket for Tim Lewis the new ladies man. Other highlights were three caught behinds for Lodewijk the Playboy and Old MacDonald literallly smothering a catch in his new D-cup at long off. A quiet game for Alex and Joost but they showed themselves to made of the right stuff when they were still present after three crates and six jugs of beer.
Remember it pays the bills lads!!
