Match Report – Dutch Touring Team vs. Peppard Stoke Row CC (15 July 2025)

Peppard Common, Oxfordshire

In the rolling countryside of Oxfordshire, the Dutch touring team were treated to an unexpected but thoroughly enjoyable fixture against the welcoming hosts of Peppard Stoke Row Cricket Club. With our original match cancelled at the last minute, it was a great stroke of luck (and kindness!) that Peppard were able to step in, offering not just a game but also a splendid setting, friendly competition, and even a small BBQ with delicious hotdogs. Cricket – and camaraderie – truly won the day.

Dutch Innings – 146 runs (20 overs)

Our batting effort saw everyone get a chance to contribute under the golden evening sun.

• Archie was in fine form, stroking his way to a composed 23 retired.

• Arthur added a stylish 17 before falling to a sharp catch.

• Felix showed positive intent with 13 runs, while Desmond chipped in with a lively 9.

• Fraser (6), White (6), and Gregory, who remained not out on 5, helped keep the score ticking.

• Tommy played with flair for 7 runs, and it was good to see Alexander return for a second go, adding 1.

• Ben, Josh, Joshua, and Louis didn’t get the runs they might have wanted – but there’s always next time!

Despite some accurate bowling from the hosts – with Greenaway (2 for 6) and Franklin (2 for 2) standing out – we posted a competitive 146.

Peppard Stoke Row Innings – 117 runs (20 overs)

Defending our total, the Dutch bowlers shared the spoils with energy and enthusiasm.

• Josh led the way with 2 for 5, finding both rhythm and reward.

• Caleb (1 for 6), Warner (1 for 1), Felix (1 for 7), Archie (1 for 5), and Arthur (1 for 14) all took key wickets, showing the depth of our bowling attack.

• Tommy, White, Fraser, Ben, Joshua, and Alexander all bowled with heart, keeping the game tight.

The fielding effort was equally sharp – Archie took a fine catch, and everyone stayed switched on in the field.

Peppard’s Franklin (20 retired) and Weatherall (21 retired) made elegant contributions, but the target proved just out of reach as the hosts finished on 117.

Final Thoughts

Though cricket was the main event, the true victory was in the spirit of the day: two friendly teams, a scenic village ground, good company, and the smell of BBQ wafting across the outfield.

A huge thank you to Peppard Stoke Row CC for hosting us on short notice – it was a warm, wonderful evening of cricket, and one we’ll remember fondly.

Until next time – tot ziens!

Match Report – July 16th, 2025 – Henley CC vs Dutch Touring XI

For the second time, our Dutch touring side had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful ground of Henley CC – a stunning setting that once again provided the perfect stage for a fine afternoon of cricket.

Batting first, the Dutch side worked their way to a total of 134 from the allotted 20 overs. Tommy set things in motion with 8 runs, while Archie played positively for 16 before being run out. Arthur added an elegant 19, and Josh anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 19, showing great composure at the back end. Fraser and Desmond contributed in the middle order, while Will chipped in with 5. Though runs were hard to come by against some sharp Henley bowling – particularly Rupert (3 for 11) and Freddie (2 for 7) – the Dutch batters showed determination and plenty of spirit right down the order.

Henley began their chase with intent. Tommy struck early with a clean bowled, and Felix followed up with another wicket to keep the pressure on. Archie bowled tightly, taking 1 for 12 in his spell, and Will also struck to remove a dangerous batter. Fraser and Arthur provided sharp fielding, each taking an excellent catch, while run-outs from the Dutch side kept things exciting. Henley, however, paced their innings smartly, with Jackson (32 retired) and Rupert (26) leading the way. In the end, the hosts reached 135 with a couple of overs to spare, finishing the match in good spirits.

Although Henley came out on top, the Dutch side showed real fight, energy in the field, and plenty of skill with bat and ball. Every player contributed – from the disciplined bowling of Alexander and Ben, to the tidy spells from Josh and Fraser, and the commitment in the field from all.

The day ended in the best possible way: a well-deserved BBQ by the clubhouse, superbly arranged and much enjoyed by all. Hotdogs were plentiful, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and special thanks go to HJ for making sure everything was so well taken care of.

All in all, it was another fantastic day of touring cricket – played in a beautiful setting, in great company, and with plenty of smiles all around.

Match Report – July 16th, 2025 – Goring CC vs Dutch Touring XI

For the second time, our Dutch touring side had the pleasure of playing at the wonderfully picturesque ground of Goring CC – a truly charming setting that once again offered the perfect stage for an afternoon of competitive yet friendly cricket.

Batting first, the Dutch XI posted a total of 134 from 20 overs. Tommy gave the innings an early spark with 8 runs, Archie batted positively for 16 before an unfortunate run out, and Arthur looked stylish with 19. Josh held things together superbly at the back end with a calm, unbeaten 19. Contributions also came from Fraser, Desmond, and Will, who all kept the scoreboard ticking despite some sharp bowling from the hosts – Rupert’s 3 for 11 and Freddie’s 2 for 7 being the standout figures.

In reply, Goring set about their chase with determination. Tommy and Felix struck early with a wicket apiece, and Archie (1 for 12) and Will (1 for 18) kept the middle overs tight. The Dutch fielders backed up brilliantly – with Fraser and Arthur both taking excellent catches and sharp run-outs adding to the excitement. Still, the hosts battled hard, with Jackson (32 retired) and Rupert (26) keeping them in the hunt.

The tension built steadily until the very last over, when Goring needed just a handful of runs. Every ball was met with cheers and gasps from the sidelines as the equation narrowed. With the very last delivery of the match, all three results were possible with 2 for the tie and 3 for the win.

Goring hit the ball to straight cover who fumbled the throw. By the time the ball dislodged the bails, Goring completed 2 runs. The realised that the wicket was broken but not down and the ball was still in play. Goring scampered for a winning run. They reached 135 to claim victory in what was a nail-biting finish befitting the spirit of touring cricket.

Despite the narrow defeat, the Dutch side could be proud of their effort, teamwork, and fighting spirit. Everyone played a part – from the disciplined spells of Alexander and Ben to Josh’s control with the ball, and the tireless energy shown in the field by the entire team.

After all the drama, the day closed in the most enjoyable way possible: with a wonderfully organised BBQ, complete with hotdogs and a relaxed atmosphere by the clubhouse. Special thanks go to HJ for ensuring it was so well taken care of.

All in all, it was a truly memorable day – cricket played in the best of spirits, in a stunning setting, and with a finale that will be talked about for a long time.
