There is a hole in my wicket, so what should I do?

Well known song, perhaps less know lyrics. But the reality of our field 3 has been like this for the last few years. Thanks to the Amsterdam municipality, in particular Tim van de Wetering and Martien van der Vegt, and our own Arsalan Alim, a brand new mat was acquired for this pitch.

But wait…. For cricket, one requires two holes to accommodate the stumps. Few dare to cut up a fresh mat, let alone with the confidence to have it done at regulatory distances. Not so ACC5’s captain Bobby Murtaza and his men. They wanted a match on Sunday, so they were sure to get a match on Sunday. Armed with a several pins to fix the mat, an accurate tape measure, a sharp Stanley knife and enough dedication to make this their pitch, several ACC5 team members, aided by ACC3 club mates, the team went to work. Sunlight galore so nothing to stop them.
