T20: ACC1 fails Cooper test, VRA clear winner at 't Loopveld

[by the editor/MvO] After a good recovery in the Top Division, ACC1 competed against VRA on a weather-glorious Friday evening, the kick-off match on the Loopveld in the T20 competition. And how beautiful our ground looks! And it was fun, with quite a few people watching. But unfortunately, we lost quite hopelessly. You can say from that experienced Orange Man Ben Cooper.

Won the toss, bowling. Everything goes reasonably well until 38 for 3. Opener Singh is already out, caught for 23 by Arya on Alangra Napoleon for 23. Rees was gone for 0 (ct Zaidi, b Kumar). But when Ben Cooper comes in, everything changes. Unfortunately, he is missed twice early on in his innings. Together with ex-Oranjeman Peter Borren, the runs really get on the board. But Borren quickly goes out, at 17 (caught Potdar). Cooper, however, shows the medium pace bowlers all sides of the ground, especially behind the boundary. For the young men it is still learning how to bowling on such a person - and how not to. And that spinners usually tame such a hitter earlier, because they are less predictable.

Anyway, it will be 158 for 9 in the 20 overs, where a very nice catch near the boundary of Devanshu Arya should not be left unmentioned. The score book is unclear about his "victim." Cooper made 81 (5x6, 6x4) ct Raza on Alangra Napoleon. Raza 3/19/4, Alangra 2/16/4, Kumar 2/23/3.

Almost 8 runs per over to win this T20? Tall order, the British say. Too tall, it soon turns out, it will never be a match. On the batting side, there is still a lot of work to do for our coaches. Raja takes the first three batsmen (Potdar still 12), then Kothari stands out again with 18 (nicely caught by Borren, who unfortunately has to go to hospital with a badly injured finger, get well!). And Jamie Mulready adds another quick 15 (2x6). McInerney also made some runs (22) as batsman nr 8, as well as Zaidi as number 9 (28 no). Nice, but the backlog was too big. Thanks to Cooper. With 127 for 8 on the board, the game was over. And a cozy BBQ was waiting for the cozy audience (with quite a bit of too cheerful VRA people ;-)
