[door De Zamiaan] Zaterdag mocht de Zami aantreden op het vergrote voetbalveld van Hilversum, vooral naar de zijkanten was er niet al te veel ruimte. Een pitch die allerlei rare bewegingen van de bal veroorzaakte maakte het niet makkelijk voor de batslieden maar ook niet voor de bowlers, iets te ver buiten off en de bal pakte de helling op de pitch en werd onbespeelbaar.
Genoeg uitdagingen dus waar we snel achter kwamen nadat Umer de toss weer verloren had (hier moet hij nu echt iets aan gaan doen!!) en we mochten fielden. Enkele spelers van Hilversum gingen al snel voor de grote klappen naar de korte boundaries. De startende bowlers deden hun best, maar Wim had zich deze week duidelijk overtraind en kon z’n lijn niet vinden en had in lange tijd niet zo slecht gebowled. Dit legde dus meer druk op zijn teamgenoten, maar die gingen daar aardig mee om.
Ook werden een aantal vangkansen verprutst, to put in mildly. Met als hoogtepunt de harde botsing tussen Nagesh en Mushaf die gelukkig geen gewonden opleverde, maar dus ook geen vang.
Het was te danken aan Abu (4 wickets) en Zuby (al weer 3 wickets!!!!) dat we Hilversum voor 161 runs aan de kant hadden en we de lange wandeling terug naar het clubhuis konden maken. Daar aangekomen genoten wij van een lekkere Indiase lunch aangevuld met een lekkere curry die Rahul bij zich had.
De 2e innings begon iets te laat want Rahul mocht openen maar hij had nog een sanitaire stop ingepland. Waarschijnlijk kwam hij door al dat gehaast niet lekker uit de verf en kon zich al erg snel weer naar de kant begeven. Waarna hij ons uitgebreid uitlegde hoe en waarom hij uit was gegaan. Dit zou hem nooit meer overkomen.
Yousaf en Mushaf (46) legde de basis voor de uiteindelijke winst. Gavin (48) maakte het aan het eind vakkundig af, dacht hij. Zes, vier, Zes en toen … LBW met nog 8 runs te maken.
Even wat onrust, ook weer rare slagen en noch twee wickets. Nergens voor nodig, hier moeten we slimmer in worden. Maar het maakte niets meer uit de buit was binnen. En weer een mooie allround teamprestatie.

Some players from Hilversum soon went to the short boundaries for the big hits. The starting bowlers did their best, but Wim had clearly overtrained this week and could not find his line and had not bowled so bad in a long time. This put more pressure on his teammates, but they dealt with it nicely.
A number of catching opportunities were also wasted, to put in mildly. The highlight was the hard collision between Nagesh and Mushaf, which fortunately resulted in no injuries, but therefore no capture.
